EHPAD Armenian Home

History

EHPAD Home Arménien - Historique

The building was constructed by Pierre Aublé, like a certain number of beautiful architectures in Saint-Raphaël, such as the Notre Dame de la Victoire Church.

'Le Grand Hôtel' was one of the most prestigious hotels on the Côte d'Azur, its inauguration dating from March 11, 1880. In 1958, it was ceded to a Franco-Armenian committee for the creation of a reception structure for elderly people of Armenian origin.

This committee, facing difficulties, was dissolved, the High Commissioner for Refugees then entrusted the Armenian Home to A.A.A.S., for an opening on May 19, 1959.

The establishment, approved by Social Aid, was rehabilitated in 1990. Today, we welcome residents of all origins.

On September 17, 1978, the Saint-Jean Chapel, built in the park of the Armenian Home, was inaugurated. It is the only Armenian Church in the Var.

Several times a year ceremonies are celebrated there, and especially every August 15, the grape is blessed according to Armenian tradition.

Chapelle Saint-Jean

This date is the great meeting of the French Armenian community, which gathers around Armenian animations and buffets.

Geographical location

Situation géographique

In the heart of the Côte d'Azur, the Armenian Home is located midway between Cannes and Saint-Tropez. It is one of the last seaside homes for the elderly in Fréjus/Saint-Raphaël.

A certain number of hotels are also nearby, as well as the SNCF train station and the city center, a five-minute walk away.

General architecture

The building has five levels: (total capacity of 61 beds).

The third floor is reserved for the most autonomous people, due to its isolation from other levels. It consists of nine rooms, a lounge, storage rooms and access to the attic.

The second floor includes nineteen rooms, a hairdressing and pedicure salon.

Architecture

The first floor is called the floor for the most dependent people. It consists of seventeen rooms, a rest room, a dining room for residents needing help with meals, a pantry, and storage rooms.

The ground floor includes in its 'East' wing five rooms, offices, the infirmary, and a hairdressing salon. On the 'West' side, there is a large dining room and two lounges.

The basement has its access reserved for establishment staff. It includes the laundry service, general maintenance and kitchen.

There are fifty of them, thirty-nine of which are single. They are all served by toilets and sinks, sometimes showers.

Access to single rooms is a priority for people already residing in the establishment in double rooms.
