Francophonie in Armenia

Partnerships of Excellence

Our commitment in Armenia goes beyond economic development. Driven by our Franco-Armenian identity, we have made promoting the French language a central pillar of our work. Our goal is clear: to strengthen France's presence in Armenia and provide Armenian youth with new perspectives.

Cooperation with the French University in Armenia

Since 2004, we have maintained a privileged partnership with the French University in Armenia (UFAR), an institution that embodies excellence in Franco-Armenian educational cooperation. Our student support program enables them to pursue higher education in a francophone environment of excellence, preparing a new generation of bilingual and bicultural professionals. These students represent the future bridges between France and Armenia, carrying a dual culture and capable of developing economic, cultural, and scientific synergies between our two countries.

Le Coq Français: Celebrating the Language of Molière

Responding to Armenian society's growing enthusiasm for the French language, we decided to go further. In collaboration with the Armenian Foundation for Sustainable Development (AFSD) and its partners, we support the annual organization of the national competition "Le Coq Français," an event that has become essential in Armenia's educational landscape. Since 2018, this competition brings together over 2,500 francophone students from schools across the country each year, creating a genuine celebration of the French language.

Le Coq Français extends far beyond a simple linguistic competition. It represents a moment where francophone Armenian youth celebrate their attachment to French culture, develop their spirit of positive competition, and forge bonds. For many students, particularly in remote regions, this competition also represents a rare opportunity to open up to the world and measure their abilities against their peers.

French Classrooms

Recognizing that pedagogical excellence requires appropriate infrastructure, AFSD with the Gishyan Foundation continues an ambitious program to create French classrooms in schools throughout Armenia. These modern learning spaces, technologically equipped and stocked with enriched libraries, offer students conditions to discover and master the French language. In these sometimes isolated villages, where educational resources remain limited, these classrooms represent genuine windows opening onto the francophone world.
